Vampires, blood, gore. May I say more? The story takes place in a rural village called Soutoba. It's a tiny village filled with honest, good people, that is until a mysterious epedimic is wiping them all out. What about the Kirishiki family? Could they be the cause?
Natsuno Yuuki, a young man moved to Soutoba due to his parent's request at a change of scenery. When the mysterious deaths occur, Natsuno begins to suspect if this is really an epidemic along with the town's doctor, Toshio Ozaki. Soon the village and Natsuno become pursued and surrounded by death.
Fuyumi Ono's art is definitely seen here. The animation itself is very detailed and character design is mostly developed. The shiki are given a very creepy design with their eyes and a more corpse-like appearance.
The music fits well with the scenery giving it the creepy and ominous edge on what the anime is about. Voices were alright but a few voices could easily get annoying but the storyline distracts you from that element most of the time.
The characters were interesting to say the least. The main character's personality is of a cold and indifferent teenager whom is unhappy about living in Soutoba. He is pursued by a girl named Megumi Shimizu, who has a deep infatuation with him. Toshio and Seishin are also lovely in terms of personality, however Toshio was shown to have gone through moments of psychosis.
Seishin seems to be the character narrating the story from the start of the anime. The shiki(corpse demons) seem to be humanized as they are given emotions. The jinrou(werewolves) are also related to the shiki, as shown with Tatsumi and Sunako's relationship.
The characters make the story interesting for it gives you the supernatural edge and how it connects with all the elements.
The story itself is horror. It is probably the closest that you can find relating vampires to Bram Stoker's Dracula giving them weaknesses such as: sunlight, garlic, religious items and stakes through the heart. The supernatural/horror element makes this a treat to watch as well as the creatures such as vampire and werewolf are resorted to their horrific element to give you a good fright.
