Are you passionate about writing?

Would you like to show it off?

Maybe you didn't know, but Anivide is looking for high quality reviewers written by a handful of appointed writers, and we're looking for more people to become the voice of the Anivide Community.

What are site reviewers and what's it like being one?

Well, a site reviewer is someone with exclusive rights to post reviews on the main website and thus represent Anivide’s stance on any given anime. Each of us has different tastes in anime and different opinions that occasionally clash. On the other hand, we pride ourselves on being open-minded, respecting views different to our own, and appreciating frank, constructive critique whenever it's given in good spirit.

RULES FOR REVIEW POSTING

We’re looking to recruit good writers to the Anivide Voice team. However, before you make a submission, read the following to ensure your writing is up to par.

Grammar, syntax, and spelling:
Firstly, to qualify, you’ll need to demonstrate that you can compose fluid and largely error-free writing.

* Always spell check! This should be a no brainer. If you submit a sample review with excessive spelling mistakes, I guarantee it'll get deleted. Sorry to be harsh but such is life of a writer.

* Make sure your verb tenses agree! Once you've started a paragraph with a specific tense you need to stick with it. By constantly mixing up tenses, your writing can be jumbled and very hard to follow, not to mention that it just reads badly in general.

Example: "I liked Ichigo, he is very funny." should be "I liked Ichigo, he was very funny."

* When it comes to sentence structures, try to mix things up a little! Reread your prose to ensure consecutive sentences don’t start with the same word or phrase.

Example (Bad): "It sucked when my girlfriend dumped me. It made me depressed."
Example (Good): "It sucked when my girlfriend dumped me. In fact, I actually got depressed; who would have thought?"

* Another common mistake is the use of run-on sentences – sentences which are literally too long and consist of too many segments separated by commas. Break them up whenever possible.

Example (Bad): "My cat is so weird, he reaches into the food bowl, grabs a piece of kibble and drops it on the ground, then eats its before doing it again."
Example (Good): "My cat is so weird. When he eats he reaches into the food bowl, grabs a piece of kibble, and eats it after dropping it on the floor. Then he does the same thing again until he's done with his meal."

* Don’t use the word “you” too often in a review; remember, your review should be as professional as possible, and overusing this word makes it sound too casual.

* Make sure not to overuse the verb "to be" either. This includes the words "is" and "was" i.e. ‘the ball is red’ or ‘the anime was boring’. There's nothing wrong with the verb in general, but if you overuse it, your writing will sound rigid and unnatural. There are many, many ways you can avoid its overuse, ranging from using a different verb to altering the sentence structure so you don’t have to include it.

Also, one major, major problem that accompanies the overuse of "to be" is the use of passive voice. The easiest way to explain the difference between passive and active voice is this: in passive voice the subject of the sentence receives an action, whereas in the active voice the subject of the sentence performs the action. If you're not familiar with the concept, make sure to pay strong attention to the following examples!

Example 1 (Passive Voice): "The man was bitten by a dog."
Example 1 (Active Voice): "A dog bit the man."

See how the verb "to be" was completely taken out of the sentence? Here are two more examples:

Example 2 (Passive Voice): "His wallet was swiped by a pickpocket."
Example 2 (Active Voice): "A pickpocket swiped his wallet."

Example 3 (Passive Voice): "Anime-Planet is run by an awesome administrator."
Example 3 (Active Voice): "An awesome administrator runs Anime-Planet."

Scoring and objectivity:
It’s true that no two people rate exactly the same; however, for your ratings to be useful to your readers, you will need to use them correctly:

* Reviews are a balance of opinions and facts - they're not 100% objective or 100% subjective. When somebody reads your review, they're looking for two things: Did you like or dislike the series and why. The like/dislike aspect of your review should cover your opinions, and the why part should support your opinions with facts. Don’t write just facts (a scene-by-scene description of what happens and who the characters are), but ensure your review is substantially composed of what you think the anime does well and where it falls short.

* Your review must reflect your scores. If you rate something as a 9.0 overall, it needs to be one of the very best anime you've seen; likewise, if you rate something a 2.0, it needs to be one of the worst.

* Remember, you're rating on a scale of 1-10, and you need to have enough room in your scale to distinguish your anime from one another. As a rule of thumb, it's best not to submit your favorite series for your sample review - the site staff want to be able to evaluate your scoring in addition to your review.

Writing skills:
Finally, your writing skills in general will require some personal traits that nobody can teach you, but can only have been gained through practice.

* Firstly, make sure you have a very strong vocabulary! You're going to need to demonstrate that you have a wide range of both verbs and adjectives at your disposal and can use them naturally.

* Editing your own work is very important; while we all make mistakes, they should be minor and easily fixed. Having somebody else look over your work is always a good idea, but you should be able to identify and correct the majority of your own mistakes before posting. Keep in mind that if you submit a review with a substantial number of errors, we’re likely to turn you down.

* Having a lead-in to your review is critical; you should avoid jumping straight into the story section. It can be an analogy, a witty comment, a joke, or even just a simple statement - almost anything can work.

* Do not write rigidly to the template if at all possible. Remember that it's very flexible, and you can say just about whatever you want. Trying to limit or restrict your writing simply due to the review format is never a good thing!

* You will also need to have your own writing voice. This is something that comes naturally with practice; chances are, if you don't have at least a year or two of writing experience under your belt, you haven't yet developed the skills we're looking for.

* As a final point, although we get many applications, not everybody is cut out for site reviewing. Although this should not discourage you (you could very well be the next addition to our team!), keep in mind that it is a tough position that requires a level of writing that most people can’t meet. As it stands, every site reviewer has a thorough background in writing as well as being educated to at least sophomore level on English-taught courses. Your writing should, without a doubt, be at this level! The reasons this is said let me show you examples.

This is a good review: By rieyukimura everything is laid out and explanatory it's how a review should be it gives anime fans a feel for the anime as a review should be.
Hungry Heart: Wild Striker
Story(6.5/10)

Are you a younger brother of someone famous? Are you becoming a shadow of your siblings? Are you tired of being compared and seems to be always the second best? You might have the same scenario with Kyosuke.

An Orange Highschool, orange haired main protagonist and orange uniform, you’ll all get it in Wild Striker. The Hanamichi Sakuragi of Soccer? That would be Kyosuke Kano. This anime series focuses to the main protagonist, Kyosuke Kano, a teenage highschool student who at the beginning of the series, has just transferred into Jyoyo Orange High School. He is the younger brother of Seisuke, a famous A.C Milan soccer player who first taught him how to play and love the game soccer and whom he admired since childhood. But after Seisuke left Japan to sign with Italian powerhouse A.C Milan, people started comparing Kyosoke to his brother. They criticize his different playing style, saying that it’s too rough and unpolished. Living with his brother shadow, he’s love for the game slowly started to diminish and eventually lost most of it if not for two schoolmate who saw and was amaze of his wonderful strike.

You’ll learn how cooperation, loyalty and comradeship influence one’s decision. The choice between loyalty and ambition which was tested in several episodes can be seen.
The main characters evolve from being an individualist to a true sportsman. The story is a continuing strives to win. The motto “try and try until you succeed” and “don’t lose hope” is noticeable. It’s more of individual growth than of the team where they belong.

The story seems to have a lot of cuts. It looks like something is missing but you cannot point it out. It also seems to be fast-forward. It was unfit for only 52 episodes.

This is one of sports type anime that you wish there is a miracle win that will happen in difficult times. I don’t know if it’s being realistic or the writer just love tragedies. It’s quite disappointing! The writer is being hard to himself. What’s with winning at least once on their strongest rival? They are the protagonist team right?

Characters (7/10)
The story focuses more on individual characters than the team itself. It shows how a character might be anyone. They seem to be picking up from reality.
You’ll see how the main characters Kyosuke, from being a delinquent and devil may care attitude to a potential leader and responsible player. How Sakai from being “Mr. Popular and show off to become a dedicated and loyal friend although their still a hint of his being a lover boy. Rodrigo’s being an individualist to become a mid fielder who connect the team and use his brilliance not for his own benefit but of the team. It also shows that some people are born with talent and some don’t. It has the proper portrayal of characters according to their skills. The noticeable details about some traditions and behaviors of foreign players are also observed.

Animation (7/10)

The Wild Striker can happen in anyone’s school. The setting is typical and ordinary. One downfall of the show is the poor animation. If you don’t like old animes, it might not be to your likings. Except from the main characters Kyosuke, with distinct orange hair, Rodrigo with Brazilian features and Sakai with distinct European features all other characters are blurred in comparison. This other character can be interchange by a non frequent viewer of the show. The drawing is kind of suck. The coloring is not that good. The graphics are not that refined.

Don’t look at the characters and you’ll get excite. They use awesome effects especially in “losing parts”. The raining parts are epic. You’ll be carried away much more if you hear the background music. Losing seems to be one of the best parts if you’ll think about it.

Sounds (9/10)

I’ll give two thumbs up when it comes to sound. This is one of those anime that gives me a last song syndrome after watching it. Especially the first opening song "2nd Stage" by Kids Alive. They also have the right effects for the different moods that revolve around the story. Since it’s a sports type anime, the effects add to the adrenaline rush of viewers watching it. On the field sounds and player dialogues are good and do make tense moments even more exciting.

Over all (7.5/10)
Not being into sports didn’t hinder me to like the show. It got a good humor that lightens the tension and its share of drama which usually involve career break decisions.
There might be drawbacks like the drawings are not that awesome and the story kind of suck in between but its still okay. It does have the certain “K” that makes me addicted. The losses that they encounter had been artfully done. It was actually one of the best parts of the show.

Don’t expect a good ending for the team. It’s more of individual growth. This is a story of friendship, comradeship, sportsmanship and loyalty. It shows the strong bond that form in the team. This is one of shounen type anime series that girls didn’t become an issue to major decision of the main protagonist. In short, they would not piss you off.You would like the slightly hinted romance between Miki and Kyosuke that is not so pronounce until the later part.

How I wish it was not a 52 episode series since I believe that it’s too short if it’s a sports type and competing in nationals.

If you always want a win in the main team, don’t watch it. You’ll get hurt. But if you appreciate epic losses, struggles, hard work and reality, go for it.

It seems to be an open ending. It only says what happen to the main man Kyosuke. Which lives a lot of question for viewers.

This is a bad review: By Kayla1018 I apologize for insulting you and I don't mean to be rude but you review is not a review it is an opinion, you may like it but your not giving the readers a reason to. Also you should spell check before you submitted this.

Anime: Elfen Lied.

Story: 7.5/10.

A lot of the reviews for the anime series Elfen Lied on the Internet would have you believe that the series is nothing but senseless violence and nudity just for the sake of creating shock value, but that is not the case. Elfen Lied is an excellent anime series about the darker, and often inhumane and inhuman, side of humanity. I'm actually going to make the case here that the story would be entertaining even without the ultra-violence. Elfen Lied has a relatively interesting tale involving apocalypse, split personality, and evil-men-in-lab-coats performing diabolical experiments. In other words, there isn't anything that we haven't seen before, but the elements are mixed in such a way to hold one's attention well.

When the shock value is added, however, the storyline is elevated from interesting to riveting. Aside from two distinct moments (a recap portion in episode 12, and a fairly weak "bonding" session between Nana and Mayu in an earlier part of the anime), I was held to the screen from the guiltless bloodbath of the first 5 minutes to the final episode.

The story is somewhat marred by a "read the manga" ending and some unnecessary ecchi moments, but these are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things.

Animation: 9/10.

Whether you love it or hate it, I doubt anyone can really dispute the fact that the gore is exceptionally well animated. In fact, just about every part of the various fight scenes are almost flawless: fluid, quick, and exhilarating. Outside of these scenes, the animation is not quite as impressive, but nonetheless appealing. My one complaint would be with the somewhat lackluster character designs. I wouldn't call them terrible, but they definitely seem generic.

Sound: 8.5/10.

Elfen Lied has a fantastic opening theme that reappears as background music in the actual anime, with favourable results. Voice acting is fairly unmemorable save for the excellent performances of two seiyuu. Yuka is one of Noto Mamiko's first major roles, but here she seems a perfect fit; because of her efforts, what would otherwise be a relatively bland character is made into a likeable one. A similar (but less significant) effect happens with the appealing machismo of Bando's seiyuu.

Characters: 4.5/10.

While the characters in the show could have been a lot worse, they're by no means good. Most of the characters are likeable on a basic level (my favourites were probably the off-kilter, steroid pumping Bando and the surprisingly compelling Nana), and some of them have interesting back-stories thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately, in the end they feel more like caricatures than actual human beings. Given the nature of the anime, this might have been unavoidable.

Overall: 8/10.

I hate harem animes with almost no exception. As well as being shamelessly clichéd and artless, most of the plot lines that these animes manage to come up with simply aren't interesting. The majority of the anime-watching community seem to enjoy brainless, ditzy, high-pitched and disproportionate girls emasculating an already girly protagonist, but the entire idea has never really appealed to me.

I bring this up because, as much as I am loathe to admit it, Elfen Lied is undeniably a harem anime. All of the ingredients are there: the faceless main character, the ample supply of unnecessary female characters, the spacious former hotel, etcetera. Anyone who says otherwise, is simply delusional.

And yet, here I am, defending this title as not only a good anime, but a great one. Despite the pointless panty-shots, despite the random breast fondling, despite the girl-barges-into-room-with-hero-in-compromising-situation scenes, I was glued to the screen for pretty much the entirety of the series. This isn't just something I'd recommend; I think Elfen Lied is one of the best animes of 2004.

What makes this show excellent are not the harem elements; when all is said and done, the ecchi part of the show merely provides a basic skeleton for the creators to build upon. What they add is one of the bolder moves that I have seen recently in anime. While most series nowadays are invisibly affected by some time-tested boundaries, Elfen Lied smashes just about every rule on what is considered acceptable within the realm of entertainment.

The obvious example that many people have already brought up would be the gratuitous violence. Trust me, these people are NOT exaggerating; of the numerous animes that I have seen, this one takes the prize for most gore. However, what many people are failing to note is that the most disturbing parts of the anime don't really have anything to do with blood and guts. How many animes have you seen that involved animal torture? Child molestation? The total loss of conscience? These subjects have been touched upon before, but never with the intensity and prowess that Elfen Lied manages to achieve.

In the end, the most criticism that this anime receives will be derived from the fact that the anime uses raw shock value to help bolster a relatively shallow plot. What they'll fail to mention, however, is that this is not really a bad thing. When all is said and done, the unblinkingly savage nature works; Elfen Lied is absolutely fascinating in its sheer viciousness, and the ecchi part of the show only helps to contrast this brutality. If you're worried about others accusing you of having "bad taste" in anime, then by all means skip this show. However, if all you want in anime is an engrossing, hands to the wall rollercoaster ride of betrayal, cruelty and fanaticism, then there aren't a lot of titles that I'd recommend over this.

I gave it a try. I am often busy, and hardly have time for anime, but I recently (some months ago) watched this anime. Is it good enough? I may add that I did check up the names and year, plus the one revolving the anime, as in artists and so forth, through wikipedia.

Bakemonogatari

Story 5/10
I would like to say this first: Bakemonogatari is the sequel of Kizumonogatari so you might not understand some of the parts (e.g. reminiscing scenes). Now that's taken care of, let's move on with the review.

The story is about Koyomi Araragi, with pure coincidence and bad luck, being incorporated with various girls with their respective Oddity (you could call it monster or youkai). With the help of a mysterious Oddity Specialist named Oshino Meme. Koyomi attempts to save our heroine. This format is the same with every arc so you might find them repetitive.

The anime is divided into different arcs, focusing on one heroine at a time and there are no relation between arcs, story wise. The previous arc's heroine still appear in the next arc but they just usually have a nonchalant conversation with Koyomi.

Animation 6/10
Bakemonogatari uses limited animation but unlike other animes, it has a good effect. They don't put much details or they used a different style on the background to give emphasis on the characters. They also didn't draw unnecessary elements like random people walking around. They use inharmonious color scheme and random scenery shift. All mentioned above gave the anime a psychological or otherworldly atmosphere.

Sound 7/10
This anime is dialog heavy so expect to a lot of listening if you know Japanese or reading if not. Some of the scenes might be senseless and unrelated to the story but I still find them enjoyable. The related and unrelated scenes are told in turns giving it a nice push-and-pull story flow.

The background music and suspense booming sound are placed appropriately, adding to the psychological feel. The voice acting fits perfectly with the character's profile and the soundtrack is catchy and good. It has 5 openings and 1 ending song, and that's a lot of a 15 episode anime

Characters 9/10
I would say that this is Bakemonogatari's strongest part. The characters are interesting, memorable and easily likable. I mean who wouldn't remember/like the mysterious sadistic Senjougahara or the sporty perverse Kanbaru. You may even find yourself imitating them. The character to character and individual character development are done well despite being a short anime.

Overall 8/10
The anime, all in all is enjoyable. It's one of the few shows that would literally confuse your mind. It has a good balance of humor and seriousness. and it's possible that you may have a slight change in personality after watching this. It's worth 360 minutes of your life, so why not try it?

note: Kizumonogatari is not yet aired but it's already been green lit so it may be release in the near future. The relation between Bakemonogatari and Kizumonogatari is minimal. So can go ahead and watch this first ;)

I still have a shallow vocabulary pool so that's best I can do at the moment. I'll look for ways to improve my vocabulary before submitting my second review :P

Anime : Azumanga Daioh

Story: 6.6/10
Have you ever wondered about the lives of highschool girls?Ever wondered how a 10 year old can get into highschool?Well then, you should check out the highly bouncy comedy Azumanga Daioh. This anime is basically all about the lives of your typical teenage girls, although most of the time, you could say, that they're anything but typical.

Meet Chiyo, the 10 year old genius who is in highschool. How is a 10 year old in highschool you ask?Well,as I said, she really is a little genius. Now,meet her friends,Tomo, the bubbly and energetic ticking time bomb of craziness,Osaka, the airhead of the group who, well, lets just say is a few spokes short of a wheel,Sakaki, the tall, shy yet lively cat lover who is proned to being bitten by them(heaven knows why),Yomi, the short tempered, self concious one,who is succeptable to peer pressure because of her "femanine" progression, and last but not least Kagura, the female jock of the group who can be very self confident.
Along they're journey through they're highschool lives, these girls run into wierd teachers, wierd students, and different bumps along the way as in not being in the same classes together for the next grades.
The girls go through different events such as the school festivals,a trip to the beach and lots more.At frist, you may find this anime boring or a bit "different",but in the end I wound up loving it just because of the particular style and comedy that the show portrays.
So if your curious about the different lives, actions, events and actions of these girls and they're friends,go ahead and have fun checking out Azumanga Daioh

Animation: 8/10
The animation in ths anime is actually very simple yet unique and enjoyable at the same time. The detail is not all that outstanding nor is it so simple that it it isn't recognized as "lifelike".There is also a certain type of "chibi" animation to bring out the humor and the energy of the characters. With this being said, the inanimate objects are actually quite detailed to say the least.Trees,cars,water,etc. are just as flashy sould i say as other anime styles, but it is also sort of sketchy and and normal like. Not exactly origional or abstract, but still enjoyable for the overall judgement.

Sound: 7/10
The overall sound I would say is enjoyable all the same. The voices of the characters match them almost perfectly and the onomatopoeia noises are pretty much on the mark.I woudn't say that the sounds are perfect, but they are accurate enough to get the point across for the different areas and events.

Characters: 9/10
Characters?Heh,some of the best characters I have ever seen in an anime. They are funny, simple yet outstanding, and not to mention just enjoyable. This I would have to say is what really backs up the storyline and the anime itself.Basically, one of the most important features in Azumanga Daioh. The characters keep the audiance entertained at all times and definetly puts the comedy in it by giving it a real kick!

Overall: 9/10
Azumanga Daioh overall is absolutely fascinating and very enojoyable!I can almost guarantee that you will love the features, characters, events, just about everything in it.It makes me want to watch it over and over again, thats for sure. So,if your an anime lover who loves comedy and a great anime comedy experience, plus you want to see how life for Chiyo and her friends really is,go and check out Azumanga Daioh!I can almost promise you,if you see it,you'll fall in love!

srry if my grammer is a little off..
