Well I just finished this movie and felt like leaving a review somewhere, so here goes.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days

Story 3/10
The movie takes place in a post WW2 Japan that is separated into two parts. The story revolves around two boys are building an airplane to visit a gigantic tower controlled by the union forces. When a girl discovers their plan the 3 make a promise to visit it together. One day the girl disappears and the two boys stop working on the plane. Beyond this point would be spoilers.

My biggest problem with the story was the combination of the slow pace and lack of context. With as much time was spent with narratives about the lazy days that they spent together as children would have been better spent with some context about the previous war and the political situation which are just a side note early on. I know this wasn't the focus of the story but it played a major role in the plot. Even the ending cut off quickly after the resolution leaving many many unanswered questions.

Animation 4/10
The animation was of average quality for anime which means it is below the average of a motion picture. Many scenes had fantastic animation, but certain scenes were choppy low frame rate CGI.

Sound 3/10
The background piano music was not memorable. It never got in the way of the story, but it had about as much effect as the story did, which was to put the viewer into a sleepy mood.

Characters 2/10
Strange how when so much time is spent on the daily lives of these three students early in the movie that very little time is spent developing any sort of character within them. The narratives really told us little about their motivation or personalities, it just made us listen to a long speech about how they were feeling.

Overall 3/10
While this movie was not completely awful, it was very unmemorable and no part was exciting or very interesting. The injected love story was not convincing and the events showed little emotion. The war story was a side-part of the series on not focused on so the few action sequences were quick and uninvolved to the plot.

It has not. We're simply waiting for someone else to decide to go ahead and Post another review.
